About Me

Hello! I live in Southsea on the (occasionally) sunny south coast of the UK. For several years I tried (and failed) to place myself within any of the main categories of photographer, until I ran the process backwards and through elimination realised that what actually interests me above all else is place. The photographers I consistently turn to - Bill Brandt, William Eggleston, Saul Leiter, Joel Meyerowitz, Bernd and Hilla Becher (did I mention Bill Brandt?) - all, for me, prioritise place and shoot and process in a manner that enhances their decision. Sometimes there are people in the frame but they seem subservient to the place in which they are caught and have as much importance as other objects. L.S. Lowry did this to a degree not possible on a camera and as such is one of the artists I most admire.

For those who are interested I use Fuji cameras (X-Pro 2 and X-100T) and, since I rediscovered it in a box, a Ricoh GRD IV from around 2012.

I hope you enjoy this site and feel encouraged to get in touch ~ Nick
